(WASHINGTON – Jan. 29, 2010) -- The major general in charge of U.S. Forces Iraq’s air assets will become the new director of U.S. Joint Forces Command’s Joint Concept Development and Experimentation (JCD&E) Directorate (J9).

As the J9, Air Force Maj. Gen. Joseph Reynes Jr. will oversee the command's concept development and experimentation on capabilities and concepts required for the next decade and prototyping of capabilities for the joint warfighter.

Reynes currently serves as director of U.S. Forces-Iraq’s Air Component Coordination Element and commander of Detachment 2, 9th Air Expeditionary Task Force.

J9 leads the development of emerging joint concepts, conducts and enables joint experimentation, and coordinates DoD JCD&E efforts in order to provide joint capabilities to support the current and future joint force commander in meeting security challenges.

In addition to numerous tours as a fighter pilot, Reynes has commanded the 51st Fighter Wing at Osan Air Base, South Korea, the 53rd Wing at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., and the 53rd Test and Evaluation Group at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. He also served as the executive officer of U.S. Central Command at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla, and the F-16 program element monitor at the Pentagon in Arlington, Va.

Prior to assuming his current duties in April 2009, he served as the inspector general at Air Combat Command, Langley Air Force Base, Va.

A 1978 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, Reynes holds a bachelors degree in military history and a masters degree in national security and strategy studies from the National War College.

He has been awarded the Defense Superior Service Medal twice, the Legion of Merit twice, the Meritorious Service Medal five times, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Air Force Achievement Medal and numerous unit, service and campaign medals and ribbons.
